This study aims to investigate students’ expectations and challenges in an international mentoring collaboration program between State Polytechnic of Ujung Pandang and Highline College, USA. Using a mixed-method qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis involving 120 student participants. The results reveal that students have high expectations regarding the development of their English proficiency, opportunities for cultural exchange, academic support, and personal growth. However, they also encounter significant challenges, such as communication barriers, cultural differences, technological issues, anxiety, and limited opportunities for interaction. To address these challenges, strategies such as enhanced language support, intercultural communication skills training, advanced technological infrastructure, a supportive mentoring environment, and more frequent opportunities for interaction are necessary. This study provides valuable insights for educators and policymakers seeking to enhance the effectiveness of international mentoring programs. Recommendations for future research include exploring the long-term impact of such programs and conducting comparative studies across different cultural and educational contexts.
