Synopsis The adaptation of the Cooke, Troughton & Simms ultra‐violet microscope for quantitative absorption measurements at a limited number of wave‐lengths in the ultra‐violet is described. Measurements have been made on model absorbing systems to investigate the variation of absorption values due to changes of the optical conditions (e.g., condenser and objective numerical aperture, field stop diameter and use of quartz monochromat at wave‐lengths differing from that for which it was computed).
