This study examines how strategies originate in organizations as a product of the prior experience of the entrepreneur starting the firm as well as the period during which the firm is founded. Findings from the study indicate that the strategy initially adopted by the organization is strongly influenced by the prior functional experience of the entrepreneur, the environmental period during which the firm is founded and, in the case of certain strategies, the age and education of the entrepreneur.
