This research note is based on two short inquiries conducted on the Polish borders in January and July, in 2022. It gives an overview of what has been portrayed as a “hybrid war”; orchestrated by Belarus against Europe, instrumentalizing tens of thousands of migrants in search of a better life, and the exodus of several million Ukrainians welcomed with open arms by the entire European Union. In doing so, the paper questions the impact of the political context on people engaged in solidarity activities, and the weight of racism in foreigners’ reception in Europe.
