One of the shortcomings of secondary and baccalaureate education is the use of technological tools (calculators and computers) and the teaching of programming languages. This paper shows the experience of having taught Linux, LaTeX and Python from 2011 to 2019, with the aim of pointing out the academic benefits of knowing how to use the calculator and programming languages in depth, that calculators and programming help students in improving the learning of concepts in the subjects, that resistance to change in education is hidden by myths, that productivity-oriented tools are not the most suitable for the education system, that help in reducing the gap between baccalaureate and university, and that when students enter the Industry 4.0 job market they have programming knowledge regardless of the educational option they have chosen.
