The purpose of this paper is to discuss briefly some significant relations brought out by recent studies of runoff in the entire Pacific Coast area in Alaska, British Columbia, and the United States from Juneau to the Mexican border. The study to date has involved the determination of the coefficient of variation of yearly runoff at 137 stream gaging‐stations, 8 in Alaska, 19 in British Columbia, 36 in Washington, 46 in Oregon, and 28 in California. For California the number of records studied is less in proportion to total number of records of over ten years than in the case of the other States, while for Alaska all records of ten years or over have been used.
