The Human Heredity and Health in Africa (H3Africa) Consortium aims to promote genomic research on the African continent through capacity development and research in both infectious and non-communicable disease research for the benefit of African populations and the world. It is funded by the National Institutes of Health (USA) and the Wellcome Trust (UK) and had its inaugural meeting in August 2012 in Addis Ababa. The H3Africa Consortium includes collaborative centres, research projects, ethics projects, biorepositories and a Pan-African Bioinformatics Network (H3ABioNet).
