Systematic review of NASICON compounds enhances symmetric sodium-ion battery development, suggesting improved performance.
Symmetric sodium-ion battery (SSIB) systems are catching widespread attention in the field of energy storage. It offers enhanced safety and an easy fabrication process and has the potential to meet future energy demands. On the other hand, NASICON-structured compounds, especially vanadium-based, are catching attention due to their bipolar behavior. Thus, there is an urgent need for a systematic study of the integration of NASICON-structured compounds with SSIBs. This work aims to provide a systematic review of NASICON-structured materials and their suitability for symmetric SIBs. It includes their detailed studies and recent advancements in all organic liquid electrolyte-based, solid-state electrolyte-based, and aqueous electrolyte-based symmetric SIBs. This review aims to support the ongoing research on SSIBs by providing a performance-based comparative study that will help researchers to enhance the current research progress and motivate them to design high-performance symmetric sodium-based battery systems.
