This replication of a 1969 study focused on audience attitudes about television in the lives of the elderly. The current study gathered responses from 274 elderly residents of Long Beach, California, concerning their television viewing behaviors, and their attitudes and opinions about various issues. These issues included television entertainment, the companionship function of television, the influence of commercials on buying decisions, programming that should be presented more frequently, objectionable program material, and how honestly and factually older people are depicted in drama, comedy, and commercials.
