A survey of undergraduates revealed that both authoritarianism (A) and dogmatism (D) were inversely associated with dovish attitudes toward, and fewer protest actions against, the war in Vietnam (VNW). However, the A-VNW correlations were significantly larger than the D-VNW correlations. Among the most anti-war students, number of protest actions varied inversely with A but was unreliably related to D. The A-VNW correlations were found to be far more stable than the D-VNW correlations when sex or year in school was controlled. The conclusion was that while D is ideologically correlated to a slight extent, it is significantly less so than A.
