To study systematic oscillations of serum biochemic and hematologic values, blood samples were collected from eight male Sinclair (S-1) miniature boars at midnight, 6 am, noon and 6 pm for an 11-day period. Each pig was fed for 30 min. immediately after the 6 am and 6 pm sample collections. The first 4 days were used as an acclimatization period; therefore, the data were not included. There were differences in mean serum values, due to time of day, for the following parameters: total protein, glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, lactic dehydrogenase, inorganic phosphorus, urea nitrogen and glucose. Also leukocyte count and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration were different at different times of the day. At 6 am, low values were found for total protein, glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, lactic dehydrogenase and leukocyte count; whereas, glucose and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration were high. At 6 pm, high values were found for total protein, glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, lactic dehydrogenase and inorganic phosphorus; whereas, urea nitrogen and glucose values were low. Mean urea nitrogen concentration and leukocyte count were greatest at midnight.
