Helping the Battered Child and His Family.

The initial volume by the two editors whose names appear on this book was related to the diagnosis of the battered child. The present publication is oriented to the development of therapeutic programs. The editors list three objectives to the volume: (1) to suggest a child abuse treatment program which can be applicable to a large or small community; (2) to demonstrate the multiplicity of people and backgrounds helpful to the child and to the family; (3) to provide a practical approach to these goals. They cite, as a limited goal of treatment, the possibility of having 75% of the children back in their own home within a year and suggest that the establishment of a positive relationship between the family and the therapist is the most important step in protecting the child.
