Excavation reveals undated postholes and artifacts in an archaeological evaluation for proposed housing.
A single 20m long trench was excavated by machine in the south west part of the site where original ground levels still survived, in October 2025. Subsequently, in March 2026, the whole of the surviving south west part of the site was stripped down to the top of the natural and the archaeology investigated and recorded. A curving line of five undated postholes was discovered in the northern part of the evaluation trench. No dating evidence was recovered. Another undated posthole or small pit was discovered in the southern half of the evaluation trench. Subsequent stripping revealed one additional posthole suggesting it was an irregular line of posts, possibly forming a fence line of unknown date. A single small scoop with animal bone and residual flint and a single, probably residual, small abraded sherd of Roman pottery was also found.
