Assesses ground radar performance in external beacon facilities, indicating potential improvements in verification processes.
This study proposes the establishment of a beacon operation facility as an external test environment that satisfies far-field conditions for the performance verification of ground radar systems. Because the detection of distant targets requires larger antenna sizes, conventional laboratory-based testing faces spatial limitations, making it difficult to quantitatively validate the operational performance. Therefore, an external test site with a secure line-of-sight (LOS) is necessary. We present candidate site selection procedures and facility construction cases that consider far-field conditions and ground-clutter effects. Furthermore, through actual beacon testing, we confirm that quantitative indicators can be effectively utilized for radar performance verification.
