Evaluation identifies archaeological features from the Bronze Age to the medieval period in a development area.
35 evaluation trenches located across the proposed developement area Archaeological features were recorded in twenty-four trenches of the thirty-five trenches, comprising linear features, pits / post-holes, and potential quarry features. On the basis of the dating evidence recovered, several phases of activity are represented at the site spanning the late Bronze Age period through to the post-medieval. One large ditch of possible late Bronze Age / Iron Age date was recorded. At least two phases of field system have been identified possibly dating to the late Iron Age / early Roman period, and the medieval period. The medieval activity at the site has the potential to be related to the nearby moated site at Butler's Court Farm, or other nearby settlement potentially situated along the present street frontage.
