Geophysical survey reveals significant archaeological features in Wherstead, suggesting prior land use.
Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned by EuroGarages to undertake a geophysical survey using magnetometry on land at Wherstead, Ipswich, Suffolk, prior to submission of a planning application for mixed use development. the evidence suggests a high archaeological potential for the site, with circular, linear and curvilinear features recorded, which are likely to represent later prehistoric land use, of several probable phases. This accords well with the archaeological baseline, with good evidence for Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age activity in the immediate vicinity.
