Evaluates geological characteristics in the Scunthorpe area, highlighting deeper sediment analysis.
An archaeological evaluation by trial trenching and geoarchaeological investigation, comprising 10no 50m x 2m trenches and 1no 10m x 10m trench. The geoarchaeologist was required to record the sub-surface superficial geology and at the end of each evaluation trench monitor a machine excavated test pit to determine the character of deeper sediments and sample waterlogged deposits and take carbon 14 samples. No archaeology was noted in any of the trenches, but peat was recorded in all trenches, varying between 0.90 and 2.38mOD.
