The study on women's access to the city in post-apartheid South Africa was drawn up in response to the call and proposed to undertake the study as per the terms of reference. In seeking to explore women's access to the city in post-apartheid South Africa, this proposal addresses CODESRIA's thematic priority on Ecologies and specifically urbanization and the theme democratic processes and more specifically citizenship and migration. The study interrogates women's citizenship in urban contexts in South Africa and whether the post-apartheid housing policies and programmes have facilitated women's access to cities and the opportunities therein.
