Desk-based assessment examines historical conditions and potential heritage impacts of development in Worksop, suggesting mitigation strategies.
A desk-based assessment of the historic environment baseline conditions at a site on land at the former Manton Primary School, Worksop and a 1km buffer of the site boundary. Data was reviewed from the Nottinghamshire HER and Historic England. Included a site walkover, and a review of historic mapping, aerial photographs and LiDAR. Also included an assessment of the likely effects of the proposed development on the known and potential heritage assets, with conclusions and recommendations to avoid, reduce or mitigate the effects. The proposed development site was historically located within a rural agricultural landscape, comprising the medieval open fields of Worksop and surrounding villages. Following the industrial expansions at Worksop from the 18th century and construction of the colliery at Manton, the surrounding area became included within the larger housing estates and the character changed to suburban. The former schools on the site were constructed between 1905 and 1975 and closed in 2008. There are three designated heritage assets and 28 non-designated heritage assets within the 1km Study Area. There are no heritage assets recorded within the proposed development site.
