Level 3 historic building survey documents 18th and 19th century structures at Biggin Farm, indicating architectural trends.
In May 2020 Granta Heritage carried out Level 3 Historic Building Recording at Biggin Farm, Tempsford, Central Bedfordshire. Following the removal of obscuring modern structures, a detailed record was able to be made. The study found that a small fragment of an 18th century building survived as a retained wall within the mid-19th century redevelopment of the farm. The farm yard complex was rebuilt in two phases in the mid to late 19th century, most probably between about 1860 and 1875. An interpretation of the farm's use in this period use has been suggested and the indication is that the redevelopment phase fits neatly within a national trend of farm expansion and development in what has been termed the 'High Farming' years of the 1840s to 1870s.
