Discussion explores interest use from opioid funds, linking predictive markets and gambling impacts.
Welcome to the New Math that state and local governments are using with opioid settlement funds. They sit on the funds and let them earn a lot of interest, then deem the interest separate from the settlement funds and spend them however they see fit! As someone who works in the addiction space, which includes gambling, I wonder if one of the predictive market companies has created a “commodity contract” (otherwise known as a gambling opportunity by those of us with good BS meters) on whether governments would try to steal the interest earned on settlement funds!
