FEC (forward error correction) coding and adaptive equalization are two signal processing techniques necessary to improve performance of digital land mobile radio systems. Here, interleaved RS (Reed-Solomon) block codes are used and a novel error and erasure correction technique is suggested. Performance is analyzed by computer simulation and compared against the simple error correction strategy, considering a 4-level PAM/FM (pulse amplitude modulation/frequency modulation) with frequency discrimination detection in a narrowband mobile radio channel with Gaussian noise, Rayleigh amplitude fluctuations, and random frequency modulation noise.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
