Doserates in air from each important deposited fission product have been calculated for the period 1 July 1960 to 1 January 1965 from measured deposition in rainfall at Westwood, N. J. A realistic model has been adopted to account for the distribution with depth of the radionuclides in the soil. These calculated dose rates are consistent with in situ gamma-spectrometric measurements, indicating that a detailed and reasonably accurate history has been obtained of the effect of fallout on external gamma radiation levels.
