Speech apprehension of first year engineering students in the pandemic era: basis for an intervention program

AbstractThe study aimed to determine the problems of First Year Engineering Students on Speech Apprehension in the virtual classroom during pandemic. The study was conducted using quantitative non-experimental with descriptive survey method. Results revealed that the problems in speaking performance have garnered a mean of 3.10 (moderate) as descriptive equivalent and it was found out that the prevailing problem is anxiety with a mean of 3.84, interpreted as high. Thus, an intervention program is designed to address the problems in speaking performance of the respondents. This program is divided into two: Overcoming Speaking Anxiety Seminar Workshop and Speaking Enhancement Activities.
