Access to clean water, proper sanitation and hygiene is a human right therefore clean water and proper sanitation management is a key foundation for achieving sustainable development. Hussainsagar and Himayathsagar are the important lakes of twin cities, Secunderabad and Hyderabad, India. The water of these lakes was used for drinking and irrigation purposes in the past. In this paper physicochemical parameters of both the lakes were analysed for post-monsoon, monsoon and pre-monsoon for the year 2020, were used to determine the status of water quality based on CCME and NSF methods. The WQI of Hussainsagar and Himayathsagar based on CCME-WQI method 44.83 and 87.71 indicating poor and good water quality respectively. Whereas the results of NSF-WQI indicate poor and moderate water quality for Hussainsagar and Himayathsagar respectively. The average value SAR for Hussainsagar and Himayathsagar are 23.08 and 7.32, representing poor/doubtful and excellent for irrigation respectively. Sodium percentage of the lakes indicate that water is safe for irrigation.
