Scoping review maps the influence of oral microbial metabolites on immunotherapy outcomes in OSCC, suggesting potential therapeutic implications.
Background and Rationale: Emerging evidence suggests that the oral microbiome significantly influences the tumor microenvironment and the systemic immune response in patients with Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC). While the role of gut microbiota in immunotherapy response is well-documented, the impact of oral microbial-derived metabolites on the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) remains underexplored. This scoping review aims to map the current evidence on how these metabolites modulate immune response and influence clinical outcomes in OSCC patients. Objective: The primary objective of this review is to systematically identify and synthesize existing literature regarding the correlation between oral microbial metabolite profiles and the therapeutic response to immunotherapy in OSCC. Research Question: What is the current state of knowledge regarding the role of oral microbial metabolites in modulating the clinical efficacy of immunotherapy in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma?
