Different mechanisms for the charge transfer processes of light atoms moving in metals are analyzed. At intermediate velocities (when loss and capture cross sections are comparable), the charge transfer processes for H⁺/Al are dominated by an Auger mechanism, while for He²⁺/Al close atom-atom collisions dominate.
