Social cognitive theory is used to develop and test a model predicting causal relationships between entrepreneurial, managerial, and technical self-efficacies and emerging venture performance. Managerial efficacy is a significant predictor of subsequent performance. Entrepreneurial and technical efficacies do not predict performance. Qualitative follow-up interviews provide explanations for the findings.
