In a simultaneous approach to meet increasing power demand and turning towards green energy, penetration of distributed renewable energy has increased in distribution networks (DNs). As the established centralized control and communication become involute and less effective in these heavily meshed, distributed energy resources (DERs) based networks, distributed controls are becoming pronounced. This paper presents the voltage profile analysis with different PV penetration levels, on changes in the network configuration, i.e. layout. The analysis is based on implementation of volt-var technique to mitigate against the voltage rise on different levels of photovoltaic (PV) penetration. Study aspires two targets of analysis: first is to analyze volt-var control mode on IEEE-123 bus distribution system at four incremental levels of PV penetration, and second focuses on model identification using the data from above simulated DN, to represent the network equivalent which can be used for studying voltage regulation. Study uses the simulation domain to generate response data and also replicate the working of DN.
