Relations Among Sustained Attention, Reading Performance, and Teachers' Ratings of Behavior Problems

Children from a normal primary school were tested on the Continuous Performance Test (CPT) (Klee & Garfinkel, 1983), the Delay Task (Gordon, 1979), and the Progressive Achievement Test in reading. Their classroom behaviors were also rated on the Conners Teacher Rating Scale (CTRS) (Conners, 1969) by their teachers. Sex differences were found on the CTRS but not on the CPT or the Delay Task. Age differences were found on the CPT but not on the Delay Task. The results showed that the CPT, the Delay Task, and ratings on the Inattention factor on the rating scale were significantly correlated with reading scores.
