The post-industrial stage of development of society is characterized by the increased importance of human capital in ensuring the growth of the country's economy, which focuses on the activities of higher education institutions. It should be recognized that today the behavior of universities changes and develops under the influence of the following factors such as increasing competition between the education systems of different countries, the need to constantly increase the intensity of innovation, the emergence of new professions and new requirements for the "old", which entails a change in the structure of training. Human capital is a set of knowledge and skills of an individual, received during his life and used in professional activities. In the knowledge economy, the requirements for the quality of a specialist are increasing, now not only professional knowledge and skills are needed, but also the presence of such qualities as responsibility, inner freedom, self-confidence, sociability, ability and desire to work in a team, initiative and socio-cultural literacy. The listed properties have designated characteristics of the University having or capable to create conditions for formation of such properties of the human capital. Currently, there are several models of universities (Atlantic, continental and others), each of which has its own specifics in the training of a specialist, which as a result determines its professional properties. This actualizes the problem of identifying models of higher education institutions that will improve the quality of human capital and competitiveness of the Russian higher education system in the digital economy.
