Assesses curving performance in railway vehicles, indicating improved outcomes with modified wheel treads.
The present study evaluates the effect of applying different wheel tread profiles to selected wheelsets on the curving performance of railway vehicles using multibody dynamics simulation. A self-steering effect was introduced by adjusting the stiffness of the primary suspension, and simulations were conducted for two running conditions: unidirectional and bidirectional. In these simulations, the combinations of self-steering wheelsets and wheelsets with modified tread profiles were varied. The results indicate that the derailment coefficient of the self-steering wheelset was reduced, while the longitudinal creep force of the wheelset with the modified tread profile also decreased, leading to an overall improvement in curving performance.
