Case report shows successful management of knee dislocation in preterm neonate, suggesting early intervention is effective.
Congenital dislocation of the knee (CDK) is a rare neonatal musculoskeletal condition characterized by hyperextension of the knee with anterior displacement of the tibia. We report the case of a late preterm female neonate born at 36 weeks of gestation with unilateral congenital dislocation of the left knee that was detected at birth. The patient was managed with a conservative approach with early, gentle manipulation and serial above-knee plaster casting initiated within the first week of life. Progressive correction of the deformity was achieved after four serial casts, without any complications. Early diagnosis and prompt conservative management of CDK in neonates can result in excellent outcomes and obviate the need for surgical intervention.
