Identifies widespread sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine resistance in Plasmodium falciparum isolates, indicating urgent need for monitoring.
AIMS: field isolates across India over three decades. MATERIALS & METHODS: isolates. Mutations and haplotypes were characterized by Sanger sequencing, followed by phylogenetic, haplotype network, genetic diversity and selection analyses. RESULTS: 436, 540 codons. CONCLUSION: SP resistance is widespread across India with strong regional differences. The gradual rise of higher-order mutants, especially from the North-East regions raises concern for India's 2030 malaria elimination target. Thus, continuous molecular surveillance remains essential for guiding treatment policy.
