This article explores the Nahuatlization of Christian liturgy and Christianization of Nahua poetics, revealing a new vision of the New Jerusalem.
This article proposes that the motif of precious stones in the Psalmodia Christiana’s Suchicuicatl (a song written in Nahuatl and dedicated to Easter) forms the crux of a dual operation: the Nahuatlization of Christian liturgy and the Christianization of Nahua poetics. The result of that dual operation is a new, distinctly Nahua vision of the heavenly city, or New Jerusalem, described in the New Testament’s Book of Revelation.
