Comparative analysis reveals distinct characteristics of white pottery raw materials across regions in ancient China.
The Xinzhai white pottery examined in this article primarily utilized high‐alumina refractory clay, which shares similar raw material characteristics with white pottery from the Erlitou, Wadian, and Nanwa sites in the Central Plains. These similarities suggest that the materials used for white pottery at these sites are likely the same, and the Nanwa site may have served as the source of materials for white pottery in the Central Plains. A comparative analysis reveals significant divergence between Xinzhai white pottery and its counterparts from the Haidai region, highlighting distinct regional characteristics.
