Abstract The present paper focuses on higher education for social work in Sweden. The development of the past 15 years has been characterized by growth, several amalgamations between federal university and county funded programs, and the development of a stronger research focus. Currently, the Bologna Process and new goals for the Bachelor of Social Work degree are guiding the developmental work. The present paper traces the author's personal reflections on this development and the connection to social work practice. Possibilities, challenges, and obstacles experienced are discussed.
