Literary opus of a Serbian doctor and a poet Laza K. Lazarević provides answers to many social questions, and this paper examines in particular one of the ideological perspectives of the family in a novella depicting social status of war invalids and veterans over a certain period of time. The family, as an integral part of the society, has been and has remained a central line in many works of literature that have depicted specific phases through which the family goes through in the context of different social changes. By interpreting the family structure in his novella Sve će to narod pozlatiti (People will gild it all), we have discovered a construct of family relations especially important in dramatic times, times of life crises just like the one described in the novella, confirming that the family has always been and has remained the most significant, most crucial source of support, understanding and solidarity.
