Developing and Using Cloze Materials to Teach Reading

Although better known as a testing device, the cloze technique can also be used to help word‐byword readers acquire more mature reading strategies. In this article, suggestions are provided for creating and using cloze exercises which vary in difficulty and instructional focus. Recommendations are also made for introducing and directing cloze training.
