The scalar transport characteristics of compressible mixing at two flow conditions have been investigated using laser-induced fluorescence of nitric oxide. The mixing conditions studied were at relative Mach numbers of 0.98 and 1.49. Large ensembles of two-dimensional digital images were collected and the scalar probability density functions (PDFs) were computed. Both flow conditions exhibited a translating peak preferred mixture fraction PDF. Peak total mixed fluid fractions at the center of the mixing layer were 0.73 and 0.98 for the 0.98 and 1.49 relative Mach number flows, respectively.
