Why the study?
To cultivate scientific and technological innovation ability through STEM activities that emphasize interdisciplinary applications and real-world problem solving.
The development of a cost-effective, modular Arduino-based ECG device provides a practical tool for STEM education and heart rate variability research.
May enable accessible HRV monitoring in education; leaves open clinical validation before diagnostic use.
STEM education is to cultivate the innovation ability of scientific and technological. STEM activities emphasize the application of interdisciplinary and the ability to solve real world problems. This study develops a cost-effective Arduino based ECG monitoring device. The hardware kit adopts a modular design and can be used as a STEM aid for school activities. ECG measurements are carried out through the graphical operator interface of the smartphone app. The ECG data is processed by 3 kinds of filtering (median filter, FIR filter, and wavelet filter) to obtain the precise R wave position. A customized GUI is designed to provide accurate R-R interval data for HRV analysis. The proposed systems have the advantage to promote STEM education and HRV research.
