A review of the literature in entrepreneurship and small-business management training shows that both the quantity and quality of publications are increasing. Documents were selected from 18 journals as well as conference proceedings and government documents. The Journal of Small Business Management and small-business conference proceedings were the most fruitful sources. The major findings of the review were a need for a stronger empirical focus, increased attention to evaluating the effects of training and education, more careful profiling of target audiences, and greater cross-fertilization with theory, and practice in the related fields of education and instructional design. Future reviews in this area can refine the methodology and draw on a growing literature base.
