The Automated Quasar Detection (AQD) process has been applied to a field (SGP) containing the south galactic pole, which is one of the two undisputed ‘selected areas’ in the southern hemisphere. A comparison with confirmed quasars shows that AQD re-discovered all 30 quasars with non-overlapped objective-prism spectra that were found by the visual search of Clowes & Savage, and re-discovered 12 of the 13 non-overlapped quasars that were missed by their search but found independently by others.
