A trial conducted on a Manawatu fine sandy loam examined the effect of sowing rates (20,40, and 60 kg/ha) and seed treatment (unhulled v. dehulled seed) on dry matter and seed production of sulla ( Hedysarum coronarium L.). There was no significant advantage either in using dehulled seed or in increasing sowing rates above 20 kg/ha. Second year mean seed yield (577 kg/ha) was significantly higher than that produced in the first year (147 kg/ha). Dry matter yields in the first and second years were 15.4 and 12.7 t/ha respectively.
