Case report reveals distinct dermoscopic features of digital myxoid cyst in a 74-year-old female, suggesting unique diagnostic insights.
A 74-year-old female presented with a solitary, dome-shaped, translucent nodule on the distal phalanx of the right index finger, which was asymptomatic except for an occasional pain [Figure 1]. Dermoscopy revealed pink to translucent background, with bright white areas, and a peripheral arrangement of arborizing and short curved linear vessels, findings which are characteristic of a digital myxoid cyst [Figure 2]. On needle puncture followed by gentle pressure, a gelatinous mucinous material admixed with blood extruded from the lesion. Complete surgical excision was performed for diagnosis and treatment. This represents a classic example of a deceptively simple lesion of digital myxoid cyst with distinctive dermoscopic features. These benign mucin-rich lesions may communicate with underlying osteoarthritic joints and compress the nail matrix.[1]Figure 1: Solitary, dome-shaped, translucent nodule on the distal phalanx of the right index fingerFigure 2: Dermoscopic image revealing a pink to translucent background, with bright white areas, and a peripheral arrangement of arborizing vessels (yellow asterisk) and short curved linear vessels (blue asterisk) [Dermlite DL5, 10×]Authors’ contributions The manuscript has been read and approved by all authors.
