Direct current (DC) power systems present critical operational challenges due to the fast rise rate of fault currents and the difficulty of extinguishing arc, thereby imposing higher requirements for system safety and reliability. Traditional protection devices have slow response and insufficient interruption ability, which is difficult to meet the needs of modern power systems. Therefore, DC systems require current limiters to limit the fault current and reduce interrupting pressure of the breaker. The contributions of the paper are: a novel fault current limiter based on the magneto‐motive principle is proposed. The limiter utilizes the electromagnetic force generated by the fault current itself to drive rapid movement of the limiter's movable iron core, thereby changing the equivalent inductance and enabling adaptive current limitation. First, the structure and working principles are introduced. Second, a simulation model is established via simulation. The influence of structural parameters on current‐limiting performance is analyzed. Finally, the coordination between magneto‐motive fault current limiter and direct circuit breakers is demonstrated. Simulation results confirm that the fault current limiter can operate quickly in current limiting, effectively limit fault current rise, and achieve adaptive reset based on current conditions.
