A comparison has been made between the scores obtained by American and British students on the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire. In terms of second‐order factors, the American students are found to be at a significantly higher level of anxiety and are more extravert than the British group. There is also some indication that the Americans are more conservative and less emotionally sensitive than the British students. There appears to be a rather striking difference in the structure of the self, in that the British group show significantly higher ego‐strength and self‐sentiment, while the American group show higher super‐ego development, both in terms of guilt proneness and strength of the acquired social‐moral pattern.
