Computer control methods including finite-settling-time (dead-beat) response and feedforward are applied to speed control of a dc motor with special emphasis on minimizing speed changes caused by load changes. This is presented in a manner to indicate the essential sequence of steps in developing such control systems. This is supported by reference to sources where the theoretical aspects of the design are available. It is intended to serve the broad-based electrical and/or control engineer as a guide in program development. Examples are carried out on a PDP-11 minicomputer controlling an analog computer model of the amplifier-motor combination.
