A matrix converter and a variable-speed diesel generator are integrated to create a three-phase utility power supply. The matrix converter is designed to meet strict harmonic and transient response requirements while allowing variable voltage and frequency input from the generator's permanent magnet alternator. This enables the generator to provide stable power over a range of engine speeds and load conditions. A 10 kW experimental prototype is designed, realised and tested as an offline power supply, and the results are provided to demonstrate the system performance.
