Abstract

The multispectral camera, an essential payload of China’s Tianwen-2 asteroid exploration mission, is designed to fulfill critical scientific objectives including the acquisition of multispectral images, and the investigation of surface morphology and material composition. It is tasked with conducting spectral detection within specific bands in the sampling area, thereby furnishing essential background information for sample collection and facilitating target selection. Operating within a wavelength range of 480 to 1000 nm, the camera features 8 spectral channels, a field of view (FOV) of 6°×6°, and an angular resolution of 0.055 mrad, with an imaging range extending from 0.5 m to infinity. This study delineates the instrument’s design and operational principles, alongside detailing the ground calibration tests and their outcomes, offering valuable insights for the processing and application of scientific data.
